Air Bags
Every Malibu comes with six standard air bags:(1)

  • Dual-stage frontal air bags (with right-front passenger Passenger Sensing System) sense the severity of a crash, then determine if the air bags should be deployed and whether a full or less-than-full amount of inflation is to be used. General Motors' Passenger Sensing System is designed to help reduce the potential for inflation-induced injuries or fatalities to smaller occupants, including children, who may be not be seated properly in front of an active air bag. The system automatically switches the right-front passenger air bag on or off based on the passenger's weight and the type of pressure on the seat

  • Head-curtain side-impact air bags for front and rear outboard seating positions are mounted to the roof rails. They're designed to reduce the risk of head injuries to front-seat and rear-outboard occupants in certain side-impact collisions.

  • Front-seat-mounted, side-impact thorax air bags for driver and front passenger are designed to help protect an adult's chest in a serious side-impact crash.

  • Passenger Sensing System Standard on every Malibu, the Passenger Sensing System(1) automatically switches the right-front passenger air bag on or off based on the passenger's weight and the type of pressure on the seat.
Driver Information Center (DIC)
The Driver Information Center (DIC) allows you to view important vehicle information. DIC provides 34 vehicle function messages as well as 10 driver personalization settings.

OnStar
OnStar(2) with a one-year Directions & Connections Plan is standard when you purchase or lease a Malibu. Included in this plan is Turn-by-Turn Navigation(3) — is the simplest and smartest navigation system. Just press the OnStar button and tell your destination to an Advisor. The route will be downloaded to your vehicle, and an automated voice will guide you through every turn until you arrive at your destination. Turn-by-Turn Navigation makes stopping to ask for directions, fumbling with maps and printing out web directions a thing of the past. And it allows you to keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel to help get you to your destination safely.

With OnStar's Advanced Automatic Crash Notification, if you're involved in a collision — even if the air bags(4) don't deploy — your vehicle can automatically send a signal to OnStar, where an Advisor will attempt to contact you to see if you need help. This helps quickly determine the emergency personnel, equipment and facilities needed.

StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control System
The StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control System — which includes Traction Control and panic brake assist — improves vehicle stability, particularly on slick surfaces or during emergency maneuvers. The system is designed to adjust engine torque and/or brake pressure at individual wheels to help you get the vehicle back on track. It's standard on LT, LTZ and Hybrid models.

Antilock Brake System (ABS)
The antilock brake system (ABS) is a crash avoidance feature that helps prevent wheel lockup during braking on most slippery road conditions.

  Traction Control
All-speed traction control (standard on LS and included with StabiliTrak on LT, LTZ and Hybrid models) utilizes wheel-speed sensors that automatically detect wheel slippage to help limit wheel spin (and enhance control) on slippery surfaces.

1 Head curtain side-impact air bags are designed to help reduce the risk of head and neck injuries. Even in vehicles equipped with air bags and the Passenger Sensing System, children are safer when properly secured in a rear seat in the appropriate infant, child or booster seat. Air bag inflation can cause severe injury or death to anyone too close to the bag when it deploys. Be sure every occupant is properly restrained. Never place a rear-facing infant restraint in the front seat of any vehicle equipped with an active frontal air bag. See the Owner's Manual and child safety seat instructions for more safety information.

3 Not available in certain areas. Visit onstar.com for coverage maps.

4 A NOTE ABOUT CHILD SAFETY: Always use safety belts and the correct child restraint for your child's age and size. Even in vehicles equipped with the Passenger Sensing System, children are safer when properly secured in a rear seat in the appropriate infant, child or booster seat. Never place a rear-facing infant restraint in the front seat of any vehicle equipped with an active air bag. See the Owner's Manual and child safety seat instructions for more safety information.
