Antilock Brake System (ABS)
The standard antilock brake system (ABS) is a crash avoidance feature that helps prevent wheel lockup during braking on most slippery surfaces.

Traction Control
As part of the standard Traction Control system, wheel-speed sensors automatically detect front wheel slippage and reduce engine torque and apply the brakes via the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC). This helps limit wheel spin on most slippery surfaces.

Front Air Bags and Passenger Sensing System
The standard dual-stage driver and right-front passenger air bags(1) inside Equinox deploy to supplement the safety belt system in the event of a frontal collision. These advanced air bags sense the severity of a crash to determine if the air bags should be deployed and whether a full or less-than-full amount of inflation will be used. Plus, a Passenger Sensing System automatically switches the passenger-side front air bag on or off based on the passenger's weight and the type of pressure on the seat.

Head-Curtain Air Bags
Mounted to the roof rails, available head-curtain side-impact air bags(1) are designed to help reduce the risk of head injuries to front and outboard rear-seat occupants in certain side-impact collisions and vehicle rollover conditions.

OnStar
OnStar(2) with a one-year Safe & Sound Plan is standard when you purchase or lease a Equinox. An OnStar Advisor is always ready to help in a variety of situations, whether you have locked your keys in the vehicle(3) or have a flat tire, or the air bags have deployed.(1)

LATCH (Lower Anchors and Top tethers for CHildren)
Equinox is designed with lower and top tether anchors. Child restraints may be installed in a maximum of two of the three LATCH positions simultaneously. Three child restrains may also be installed instead, using the safety belts. For information about child safety seat installation, see your vehicle Owner’s Manual. For specific instructions on proper installation, please carefully review the owner’s manual from your child safety seat manufacturer.

1 A NOTE ABOUT CHILD SAFETY: Always use safety belts and the correct child restraint for your child's age and size. Even in vehicles equipped with the Passenger Sensing System, children are safer when properly secured in a rear seat in the appropriate infant, child or booster seat. Never place a rear-facing infant restraint in the front seat of any vehicle equipped with an active air bag. Air bag inflation can cause severe injury or death to anyone too close to the bag when it deploys. Head-curtain side-impact air bags are designed to help reduce the risk of head and neck injuries to front and rear seat occupants on the near side of certain side-impact collisions. Be sure every occupant is properly restrained. See the Owner's Manual and child safety seat instructions for more safety information.
